After watching this video or reading this article, you’ll have a BETTER IDEA whether or not it’s worth visiting the Jurong Bird Park before it closes for good!

TOP Sights Worth Going

1. African Treetops

A curious turaco

African treetops looks better inside than outside.

Once you step into the inconspicuous cafe looking building, you’ll cross into a wooden platform ushering a vast aviary within.

This is the best place you MUST visit in Jurong Bird Park. There were so many unique bird species freely roaming around.

They are so curious, they would perch on and look at you. Some will even interact with you.

A curious starling even came to play with me! It was such a comical experience having it peck on my GoPro and even trying to land on it.

Otherwise, the birds would be perching at the food and water points. Those are situated very near the walkways, which allow you to have a close view of them.

In retrospect, joining the feeding session might be great. For 8 dollars, you will get to feed the hungry birds, who would then be more than glad to hang out with you!

2. Parrot Paradise

Parrot Paradise house a series of cages exhibiting the liveliest of parrots.

It was a very fun place to be, because the birds are very curious and active.

I had fun watching them play with each other.

One even came to play with me…

The curious cockatoo came.. to trade. But I did not bring any change…

Although this is a cage setting, the cages look big enough and the birds seem to be enjoying themselves. So it doesn’t feel depressing to watch them caged like prisoners.

3. Birds of Prey

Unfortunately picture cannot do justice for these eagles

Witness the majesty of the unrealistically real big birds… Other than an ostrich, which doesn’t feel like a bird to me

The Eagle and the Vulture hasn’t been as real as it was beholden in my eyes.

I have never seen a big this BIG in person

This eagle is massive.

And the vulture almost looks like a person with a big coat.

Bonus

Some bonus places…

Pelican Cove

Theres a good row of shaded seating area where you can stare at Pelicans staring back at you.

It’s a really good spot for resting

Flamingo Lake

Rows of pretty pink flamingoes are nice and calming.

Tips If You’re Going

If you are planning on going, for better experience I would recommend

Join the PAID Feeding session

My best experience was when the birds interacted with me.

When I was just browsing from cage to cage, it was quite boring, even depressing.

At the “Heliconia Walk” and “The Window on Paradise”, I felt so sad for the caged pretty birds.

Some were ALONE in their cages.

It was a stark contrast to the common Mynahs flying freely around them.

I felt like watching prisoners in jail.

I hugely preferred the walk-in aviaries where the birds are flying freely in a bigger open space.

At least they looked like they have a life.

Everyone minding their own business

BUT. the problem with visiting such a big open space is that the birds tend to mind their own business.

Especially in the “Lory Loft”, no birds bothered to show themselves. We were very bored there.

If you join the feeding session, at least they will be more interested to show up and interact with you.

Hornbill with its menacing horn-bill

After visiting the hornbills, I might also think that MAYBE it won’t be too safe for humans to walk into a room full of them.

Do note that they only offer TIMED feeding sessions at the African Treetops, Lory Loft, or the Penguin Coast.

Avoid the Waterfall Aviary

The waterfall view is nice and iconic,

But the reason why I recommend against visiting is

  1. Most of the birds here seems to have been relocated to the new Bird Paradise location. So there were not much to see. There was one big section that was just closed off.
  2. This was in the furthest corner of the park. All the more it was not worth our time and energy.

Bring your own food and drinks

I think they are really gearing up for their big migration

So many of the shops were closed. Stay hydrated and energised!

OVERALL…

In conclusion, I think it’s still worth going for the 3 locations I mentioned above.

I really liked that starling and cockatoo!
