This is a blog version of my video on YouTube:
Hello adventurer,
In this post I’ll show you the COOLEST museum in Singapore that NOBODY goes to.
I’ll share with you why it’s actually worth going, and EVERYTHING you need to know before visiting.
Let’s begin!
It’s Like Visiting ANOTHER Planet
I saw SO MANY cool animal specimens that I have never seen before
The amazing thing is… these are all actually from our very own planet earth!
Let me take you to some of my favorite areas!
The Insect Wall
i used to feel all creepy and disgusted when i think about insects
cockroaches, flies… flying cockroaches ew…
But after looking this wall, I start seeing the beauty in them

I still DONT LIKE cockroaches though…
Look at The butterflies, Moths, Phasmids, and the metallic looking beetles

This is the wall i’ll keep coming back to adore
The EXTRAORDINARY Wall
In this museum, there are many specimens preserved in glass jars, BUT this wall contains the MOST extraordinary specimens
You’ve seen a preserved turtle? Sure…
HOW aBOUT DISSECTED TURLE WITH ALL ITS ORGANS on display?

Have you seen a preserved frog? yeah sure that’s cool
but HOW ABOUT A PRESERVED FROG while it was LAYING EGGS??

A Basket? how about VENUS FLOWER BASKET?!

those are just a FEW of the extraordinary examples from the wall,
there are many more to see

The Dinosaurs
Upon entering the museum, you’ll be welcomed by the resident dinosaurs Apollonia, Prince, and Twinky. They are 3 of the most intact fossils in the world.
They are very cool and definitely worth seeing

Singapore Whale
I didnt know Singapore had whales until I met: Jubi. When she was found, her lifeless body was already bloated and rotting.
Investigations confirmed she had a fatal boat accident. Today, she’s back to LIVE in the museum where you can see her BONES and the contents of her stomach.

The Fungi Zone
Some people call me a mushroom… because I’m such a fungi.
You need to visit my fungi friend here: The Cordyceps.
He has evolved to be very mindblowing. He literally gets into his prey insects’ heads,
and blow out of it to reproduce.

Also can’t miss watching this super cool time lapse of fungis growing
The Marine Zone
The MARINE zone is also fantastic
I don’t think i’ll ever get the chance to dive into the ocean and see all these animals for myself because im a very bad swimmer. So I’m very grateful to be diving into the marine zone with all these beautiful marine animals.

Uncover The Secrets Of The Universe
This museum also holds the answers to the secrets of the universe…
The Tree of Life

I really like the tree of life in the LIFE zone because of this graph. It’s a visualisation of evolution of life over millions of years.
I was trying to understand how we humans came along…
- We are classified under mammals
- Which came from reptiles…
- Which came from FISH…
How do you imagine us and fish?? We’ve really come a long way!
Other Humans

I also learnt that there were OTHER SPECIES of humans!!
From this wall full of SKULL replicas of other humans. Unfortunately their bones are the only thing that survived. It made me wonder how our world would be like with other human species.
Will we get along? Sounds like a star trek episode now.
Get Intimate with Singapore
Visiting this museum also lets you UNDERSTAND Singapore on a deeper level

Most of the floral and faunal exhibits in the museum are native to Singapore or at least from the region.
So, exploring the animal exhibits here gives you an intimate look to what nature would be like in Singapore.

Now i need to go to Seletar and catch one for dinner…

How did they come up with this name???

You will also find cultural exhibit and how it’s linked to natural history.
In the Heritage gallery at the second level, you get to explore the life and the work of Singapore’s earliest naturalists.

As of filming today in 2024 there is also this special exhibit covering Alfred Russel Wallace, a renowned naturalist who based in Singapore on his mission to record wildlife in the Malayan archipelago.
