Let’s begin!

The Rails & Tribulation

To get to our ROMANTIC train, we must first go through 6 km of MANUAL rail-biking. Not gonna lie, I thought the rail bike portion is very lame. Because firstly, wouldn’t it be TIRING to manually paddle this?… and, we’ll be stuck behind the bikes in front right??

BUT… when the view opened up, I actually wished we can go slower. It was also really nice to WORK together as ONE with my wife, unravelling the beautiful view together.

The tracks winds along a scenic river, with MOUNTAINS in the background, and… into TUNNELS.

We thought the tunnels would be cold and scary, but they ended up to be our favorite part of the rail bike experience!!

Otherworldly Tunnels

The first tunnel was a world of soap bubbles, which awakened the child in me. I could not resist capturing all the bubbles I see. The light refracting off the bubbles inside the tunnels were so pretty.

The most exciting part was finding out that tunnel is DIFFERENT. It made us look forward to what’s in the NEXT tunnel.

We were NOT disappointed to find a wormhole through a GALAXY.

Although it gets tiring to paddle, the view had been getting BETTER and BETTER, which was more than enough motivation to push through

The third tunnel was a crazy disco that made it feel like an outdoor spin class

The Romantic Train

Before we know it, our 6 km of rail-biking went by like a breeze. Finally it’s time to get romantic!

We were so lucky to get this time slot because the light from the setting sun was so beautiful. The golden hues really kicked the romance in this train by a few notches.

It was a really good day.

How to Do it

It’s super easy to get onto the ROMANTIC sunset train.

To get the right timing, go to time&date.com in Chuncheon where Gangchon Railpark is, and check the sunset timing during the season you’re planning to go. Then, simply book the rail-bike slot BEFORE sunset.

The BEST way to get here from Seoul is to just hop on a day tour package that includes Gangchon Railpark in the itinerary Because along the way there are other attractions such as Nami island and Garden of Morning Calm that you may also want to visit
